We’re All In It Together
I hang out at Digital Webbing a lot, and every so often, some newbie comes in and starts a particular ruckus…
That ruckus? “Who’s more important, the artist or the writer?”
I hate this ruckus, because it is very predictable and people draw sides and things get stupid, generally because of the naivete of the original poster.
It’s a stupid discussion, because we’re all in it together.
Writer vs artist? Aren’t we way past that now? Why is it that the colorist and the letterer get no love in these debates? Their impact on a project is just as great. And what about the poor, unsung, mostly completely forgotten editor? Does it always have to be writer vs artist?
The truth of the matter is, we’re all in it together. No one is more important than another, because if everyone is doing their job, then the final product should be the culmination of the entire team’s best effort. And that’s what it’s about–the final product.
As soon as we realize that, the sooner we can make some comics and put silly squabbles aside. They have no place here.
