Creating Value
It’s not as simple as it sounds.
Every time you’re contacted for a rate inquiry, you should be doing whatever it is you can to create value in the mind of the inquirer. What you’re trying to do is make them believe you’re the best person for the job, for the rate you’ve suggested.
What you’re trying to do is create value for your work.
There are many ways to go about it, but unless you’re in a position where you’re always getting work, you should always be thinking of ways to create value for your work when an inquiry comes your way.
Comics is a competitive field, and most creators who ask about your rates would be paying you out of their own pocket. They have to shop wisely.
The more value you’re able to create for yourself, the more often you’ll be hired for a job.
