Busy As You Want To Be

There was a point in time when I had too much time on my hands.

I wasn’t writing anything. I wasn’t reading anything. I wasn’t watching anything. I went to work, came home, and did absolutely nothing. And it went on for months.

The first couple of weeks were fine. It was a nice vacation! But then it just went on and on and on and… And then I started to complain. I was bored. My wife just looked at me like I had lost my entire mind. And she was right.

As a creator, you’re as busy as you want to be. There are tons of things you can be doing about any facet of your career: actively creating, no matter what your expertise; networking (also known as hanging out and talking with other creators); studying different ways to do things; making plans for convention season; damned near anything else.

A creator should never complain about being bored. The complaint should be just the opposite–you have too much work that you can’t possibly get to.

I am exactly as busy as I want to be.

How about you?
