Dead No (Yawn) More

Lots of hash is being made of the Dead No More thing that Marvel Comics are doing.

We all know that death isn’t a permanent thing in comics. There are few characters that cannot come back to life due to their impact on a character. Uncle Ben cannot be resurrected without damaging Spider-Man. The original Gwen Stacey shouldn’t be coming back for the same reason. I’m not versed enough in DC lore to see who shouldn’t make a comeback for whatever reason.

Basically, when it comes to superheroes, just about everyone is fair game for resurrection. This is inherent in superheroics. Characters that have been assumed to be dead, characters that have really died and got better, characters that have been brought back without any kind of satisfactory explanation ever given—these are all par for the course.

Who’s coming back? I don’t know. It won’t be surprising, though. The last true surprise resurrection was James Buchanan Bucky Barnes, who is now the Winter Soldier. I don’t know who’s comeback would really make an impact on me.

We’ll all find out this year. But people should stop acting shocked. We should be used to this by now.
