Tribal Beat is a new feature I’d like to do once a month on ComixTribe.com, where we showcase and spotlight some interesting projects that friends of ComixTribe are working on.
COMING ATTRACTIONS: Teardrinker from Liam Hayes
Fans of THE PROVING GROUNDS will recognize Liam’s name, as he is a frequent contributor. Liam is gearing up promotion for Teardrinker, a dystopian fantasy three-issue miniseries, which he intends to self-publish next year.
Here’s the high concept:
“The Teardrinkers promised power and divinity… They gave instead an addiction to the tears of a god, shackling the people of the Weeping City to a thirst so maddening, they give everything for a single taste. But after a thief steals a cure, his actions lead to a bloody and brutal revolution.”

INDIE SPOTLIGHT: Drones by Chris Lewis and Bruno Oliveira
I’m a sucker for the counter-terrorism/ espionage thriller genre, so this series by Lewis and Oliveira seems right up my alley. Here are the deets:Stinger and Angel Eyes are Predator drone operators: high tech soldiers who hunt Taliban insurgents by operating remote-control aircraft from the safety of a base outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s a surreal job next to the strangest city on Earth. But after a failed mission, the war hits home, in a bizarre journey that will take them from a terrorism-themed hotel to a drone-filled sky over the Strip. Bodies begin to pile up, Las Vegas starts to resemble Afghanistan, and the drone operators must confront the absurd nature of a war where terror and entertainment have begun to blur.

INDIE SPOTLIGHT: Holiday Hooligans
Holiday Hooligans is a 24 page black and white comic book featuring characters John Graham created during the 2011 30 Character Challenge. In this book, you’ll see the origins of Ninjabread Man, Brute Cake, and Karate Kane as they save (or sometimes terrorize) holiday party goers during Christmas. This comic also features a commentary of John’s experience with the 30 Character Challenge, as he hopes to motivate all future participants. This comic is published by FIGID Press and is currently available on IndyPlanet. I backed this project during it’s successful Kickstarter campaign, and have to say that John has crafted a charming book.
