You Are Not Special
I know what mommy and daddy told you.
Unfortunately, they lied. You are not special.
Those rules that companies have? They aren’t for rubes and suckers and plebes.
They’re for you.
To be really honest, they’re there because of you. Because you thought you were special, you decided to flout the rules, and do whatever you wanted anyway.
The rules are there for a reason. They’re there because the people who made the rules know what they want, and the rules are there to tell you what they want. If you can’t follow the rules, you’re telling the rulemakers that despite your application, you are not what they want.
Want to be special? Follow the rules.
Otherwise, don’t follow the rules and see how far you get.
(Oh, yes, there are dozens of stories about outliers that broke the rules and got far. I know them, myself. They aren’t special, either. They’re exceptional. I’m willing to bet you aren’t exceptional, either. The law of large numbers is on my side. You’re better off following the rules.)
